The average effect size is 0.4, a marker that represents a year’s growth per year of schooling for a student. Anything above 0.4 would have a greater positive effect on student learning. Using the calculation of Effect Size, we are able to see the progress a student or group of students are making from one set time compared to another set time in the same environment using the same assessment tool or tools.

Mid Year Comparison to End of 2025
Normally, I would be able to have effect size measures to show the impact of student learning and teacher capabilities. Unfortunately, due to the state of the school, student behaviours, teacher knowledge and capabilities, and the changing curriculum, effect size could not be used as data was not pulled from the same equal sauce for both periods of time. The data is drawn from only the curriculum refresh document - mid year with teachers only just looking at the document; end of year teachers had more knowledge of the document.
Effectiveness has been shown as percentage differences in each year level of achievement.
In 2026, I hope to have moved back to using Effect Size calculations.
