Reporoa Community of Learning (Kahui Ako)

The Reporoa Kahui Ako is a community of learners who draw from the Reporoa Valley and surrounding areas. Our kahui ako acknowledges the mana whenua and share their aspirations for their tamariki. We are composed of representation from across the learning ages from 2 – 18 including Pre-school Kindergarten and Playcentre, Kohanga Reo, Primary Schools from Year 1-6 and 1-8 and the local High School from Years 7 – 13.

My role in the CoL is an Across School Leader supporting 5 Within School Leaders and 2 Learning Support Coordinators. Lots of work as a CoL has taken place over the past 2-3 years but Upper Atiamuri School only become a member at the end of 2021. A Theory for Improvement has set by the Governance Team and was developed with the assistance of Sue Winters. These Theories of Improvements have been reworked and continue to change as our knowledge and experience as a CoL is developed.

Our Achievement Challenges include:

Localised Integrated Curriculum

Wellbeing/Hauora/Engagement/Attendance

Learning Support for students with additional needs

During 2022 I was given the opportunity to lead within the RCOL as an Across Lead overseeing all three of the achievement challenges and working with 5 Within School Leaders and 7 schools.

Below are the links to the evidence collected while carrying out my role as Across Lead:

Reflections:

2022

This past year has definitely been a year of rebuilding and learning for myself. I have thoroughly enjoyed working across 6 schools as the Across Schools Leader and working collaboratively with the Principals. It hasn't been an easy journey or even a similar journey to my previous Kahui Ako role. I have had to build new relationships with Principals who have not known anything about me, worked within their schools with their staff who again have not known me, worked with a team of Within School Leaders who were not new to their positions, and also work from documents that have been foreign to me. There has only been one of me overseeing the 3 Achievement Outcomes which has its pro's and con's. At the same time we have had Covid19 interfere with PLD days, staffing issues, and ability to meet deadlines due to lack of staff being on board. There have been many times I have had to really push for traction toward achieving any part of our Strategic Plan but I did make small gains through the year by getting base data for Wellbeing and Academics across the Kahui Ako. These gains helped to redo develop / update the Strategic Plan for 2023 and provide evidence of why we have particular focus areas.

I am looking forward to 2023 and seeing more progress being achieved in relation to our Strategic Plan and working more closely with the schools and their leadership teams toward these goals.
