Emerging Leaders Masterclass 2024

- This was a conference that provided guidance and advice to all emerging school leaders. Masterclasses and workshops included: Employment, Health and Safety Regulations; Time Management; Financial Governance; Managing Relationships; Communication; and Managing difficult situations (just to name a couple).

Unit Standard 20046 2024

- This was a NZQA course which schools are required to participate in if they have and manage a school pool. It is an introduction to pool operations - monitoring water quality and the storage of pool chemicals.

Multisensory Structured Language 2023

- This was MSL stands for Multisensory Structured Language. SL stands for Structured Literacy. MSL and Structured Literacy are based on the same principles of instruction required for effective reading instruction. MSL/SL includes the 6 essential components of reading/literacy outlined in the National Reading Panel research document as well as in the body of research known as the Science of Reading (Reading League, 2020) 

Te Pòkaitahi Reo Màori (Reo Rua) (Kaupae 2) 2022

- This was a NZQA course delivered by Toi o Homai in Rotorua with the focus on Level 2 Te Reo Maori. Areas covered included basic sentence structures, whakapapa and pepeha, tikanga and kawa knowledge, waiata,  and karakia. 

The Code with Adriene 2022

- A 1 day workshop looking at The Code and how to use it in senior primary level as a successful spelling program.  

Peer Coaching 2022

- Workshops that how to develop the skill to have difficult conversations with peers. Can be utilised for student use too. 

NCCE Minecraft 2022

- A  1 hour weekly course for 5 weeks that introduced the basic concepts of Minecraft to educators. Each week focused on how to best use the program in a classroom for educational purposes.

Structured Literacy with Liz Kane 2022

- A 2 day workshop introducing The Science of Reading and how this relates to the Structured Literacy program. 

Introduction to the Framework for Depth and Complexity 2021

- A 3 hour course to support teachers and school leaders take their students to a new level of depth and complexity in their learning. Learner frameworks included SOLO, Blooms Taxonomy, Depth and Complexity, Content Imperative Prompts, Thinking like a …, and Conceptual Thinking models.

Strengthening Instructional Leadership 2020

– Unpacking the role of an effective instructional leader and identify the leadership conditions needed to develop collaborative professionalism and robust inquiry. this was provided by Colleen Wills of Waikato University in connection to Kahui Ako.

Foundations of Behaviour 2020

– A deep look at the types of behaviors students display, why and how to overcome them.

Collaborative Teacher Inquiry 2020

– A series of workshops and sessions by Cognition Education to co-construct shared principles for effective collaborative inquiry within schools and across Kahui Ako schools.

Boys in Literacy 2019

– This workshop was very worthwhile. Marshall Diggs, the presenter, enthusiastically talks about and guides new thinking toward how boys respond to literacy and ways of how to get them intrigued through literacy.

Masters in Contemporary Education – Part 3 2019

– A practice-based Master’s programme designed to support the development of teachers and education leaders in a rapidly evolving educational environment. Part 3 involves a Scope Project that leads to a change in professional practice.

Visible Learning into Action for Teachers 2019

– Looking at another way of carrying out Teacher Inquiry that is more guided and user-friendly, and that keeps the practitioner on track. The workshops look at how to gather, collate and examine evidence and then transfers this into action that will make a positive difference to the outcomes of students.

Visible Learning 2019

– A range of PLD sessions based around the John Hatti Visible Learning concepts. Workshops and PLD included: Feedback; Visible Learning for Teachers (VLAT1 and 2); Visible Learning School visit – Clevedon School.

Te Rangihakahaka 2019

– A culturally responsive program that focusses on the people of Te Arawa and Ngati Whakaue. A hikoi around Rotorua looking at all the Pa surrounding the area and the history related to them.

Microsoft 365 Education Package 2018

– Independent workshops carried out online to support the transition from Google to Microsoft based products and how to use the Microsoft 365 Education Package competently.

Open to Learning Conversations 2018

– A series of workshops provided by the University of Auckland to help understand what Open To Learning Leadership is and how to carry out Open To Learning Conversations.

Visible Learning 2018

– A range of PLD sessions based around the John Hatti Visible Learning concepts including workshops regarding leading out as an Across Schools Leader. Workshops included: How Students Learn; Evidence to Action Day 1 and 2; Impact Coaching Day 1 and 2; and Building and Developing Visible Learners.

Accreditation Panel Member 2018

– A member of an Accreditation Panel for Adventist Education providing a critical analysis of the performance of a Special Character school leading to next steps in the school’s development. Great PLD for an aspiring principal or senior leadership team.

Team Leaders Toolbox 2018

– A workshop designed to support current and up and coming team leaders, giving advice and strategies with how to be an efficient team leader.

The Learning Power Approach 2017

– A session hosted by Guy Claxton regarding how teachers are teaching students to teach themselves, and how teachers are also holding students back from achieving their full potential.
