Learning Walls
A very intriguing read giving 8 ways to put all students on the road to academic success. I have highlighted many strategies in the book to help bridge the gap between my low or young learners and my high or older learners. Some great strategies have been given that make a lot of sense, even though the book and practices are based in America and the UK. A lot of Visible Learning Mindframes are included in this book as well.

Reflection:
In my class, I have a wide range of abilities. My class is a composite year 4-8, therefore learning abilities are vast as well as maturity levels. I have a particular student who is very low. He doesn’t process instructions or learning activities very well, in fact minimally. I often get frustrated with how dependent he is on me for every aspect of his learning. Then I came across this book and it helped me to put things in place that not only benefited him, but all the learners in the class. It gave me strategies to use with particular students to help them gain confidence when having classroom discussions, but the biggest thing it gave me were ideas for around classroom displays. And because it also made references to Visible Learning, I felt comfortable that my knew learning wasn’t going against Visible Learning. I was able to implement TIP Walls (Term, Information, Picture) which were used for math, writing and topic. The other thing that I introduced to the class was Standards Wall (Concept Map) – this is used to show the students what learning (task verbs) will be occurring allowing them to prepare themselves and make connections to prior knowledge.
